1. New Look for Exempt Organizations Website
The Charities & Nonprofits portion of the IRS.gov website has a new look. We have updated the site navigation for greater ease of use.
2. TY 2005 Tax Form Packages Available for Download
Tax Form packages commonly used by exempt organizations are now available electronically for download. Around February 24 these packages will be mailed to exempt organizations meeting certain requirements. Soon after this mailing, the packages will be available in IRS walk-in centers.
3. IRS Announces 2006 “Dirty Dozen” Tax Scams
The 2006 “Dirty Dozen”, an annual listing of the most notorious tax scams, has been issued along with an alert to taxpayers to watch out for schemes that promise to reduce or eliminate taxes. Two exempt organizations-related schemes remain on the list: Credit Counseling Agencies and Abuse of Charitable Organizations and Deductions.
4. IRS to Host Six Tax Forums This Year
The IRS will host a series of six Tax Forums across the nation this summer for the benefit of tax professionals. The Forums present the latest news and information from the IRS (including exempt organizations topics) over three days of seminars. Updates on the forums and registration procedures are posted to the website.
Tax Forums will be held in Anaheim, CA (June 27-29), Chicago, IL (July 11-13), Atlanta, GA (July 25-27), Orlando, FL (August 1-3), Las Vegas , NV (August 22-24), and New York, NY (August 29-31).
5. e-File News
For tax year 2005 returns that are due in 2006, new regulations require organizations with total assets of $100 million or more that file 250 or more returns a year, including income tax, excise tax, information and employment tax returns, to file electronically.
