1. Reminder: e-Postcard First Filing Date

Small tax-exempt organizations are reminded of the first filing date, May 15, 2008, for the new annual electronic filing notice, Form 990-N, also known as the e-Postcard.

 



2. Annual Electronic Filing Requirement for Small Exempt Organizations — Form 990-N (e-Postcard)

The Frequently Asked Questions section has been updated.

 


3. Public Inspection of Forms 990-T

The IRS has provided interim guidance on the requirement that section 501(c)(3) organizations (charities) make available for public inspection Forms 990-T, Exempt Organization Business Income Tax Return.
 

 


4. New Phone Forum on Rules for Tax Exempt Organizations During An Election Year

The IRS invites tax professionals and representatives of tax-exempt organizations to participate in a Phone Forum on Rules for EO’s During an Election Year. The forum will be presented on June 9, 2008, and repeated June 10, 2008. For information and to register online, please go to the Calendar of Events on the Charities homepage.
 

 


5. Remarks by TEGE Commissioner on Governance and Tax-Exempt Organizations

Steven T. Miller, Commissioner, TEGE recently spoke on nonprofit governance before the Georgetown Law Center Seminar
 

 


6.  Comments on Draft Redesigned Form 990 Instructions
 

The IRS is seeking public comments on the draft instructions to the 2008 Form 990. The comments received are available.

 



7.  Nationwide Tax Forums

The IRS will host a series of six tax forums across the nation for the benefit of tax professionals.  Exempt Organizations will present a seminar on public charity and private foundation status classification.  In addition, EO will present a “by registration only” workshop on the redesigned Form 990.
