1. Form 990 Filing Tips and FAQs: Governance
The IRS is providing a series of filing tips and FAQs to help Form 990 filers file a complete and accurate return. Today's tips explain how to complete Part VI, relating to governance.

2. IRS Names 10 New Members To ACT
The IRS recently named 10 new members to the Advisory Committee on Tax Exempt and Government Entities (ACT). The new members will join the 11 returning members of the panel at the ACT's public meeting on June 10. The EO project team of the Act will present a report on Recommendations to Improve the Tax Rules Governing International Grant Making.
3. New Information about Mergers and Terminations
Most tax-exempt organizations that end their operations, either through shutting down, transferring their assets or merging with another tax-exempt organization, must inform the IRS about the details of the action. Get information about the proper way to inform the IRS about your termination on IRS.gov and read our new publication about terminating or merging your exempt organization.
4. June Conference on Nonprofit Governance
The IRS, Georgetown Law School and Independent Sector are co-sponsoring a conference on Issues in Nonprofit Governance on June 23, 2009. Go to our Calendar of Events for more information.
5. Register for Summer Tax Forums Now
Attend an IRS Tax Forum for the latest tax law information, workshops, networking opportunities and CPE credits. Take advantage of early registration discounts. Exempt Organizations will present a new seminar, Weathering the Storm: Helping Exempt Organizations In Troubled Times. In addition, several sessions of the popular Redesigned Form 990 Information Return workshop will be presented at each tax forum location.
6. Register Now for Boston Workshops for Small and Mid-Sized Exempt Organizations
These introductory one-day workshops, designed for administrators or volunteers responsible for an organization's tax compliance, will be held in Boston, MA (June 9, 10, and 11).
7. How Can We Improve the Charities and Nonprofits Website?
It's not too late to submit your ideas about how we can improve the IRS Charities and Nonprofits Website. Read Announcement 2009-25 and learn how to submit your suggestions about new content you'd like to see or how we can reorganize our exisiting content to make it more user-friendly.
8. Help Us Shape EO's New Academic Institution Initiative
The IRS is developing a new academic program initiative to reach out directly to academic institutions that offer degrees related to the nonprofit sector. Announcement 2009-26 describes how to submit your suggestions and comments for the implementation and content of the initiative.
