Estimated Tax

Withheld Taxes

If a taxpayer is an employee, the employer generally must withhold income, Medicare, and social security taxes on the wages paid. Also, most payers of taxable pensions withhold income tax and pay it to the government.

Withheld taxes usually reduce either the likelihood of having to pay estimated taxes or the amount of estimated tax due.
