What Is the EIC?

The earned income credit is a tax credit for taxpayers who work and earn less than the threshold specified each year. Other factors considered are filing status and whether or not there are qualifying children.

This credit usually means more money for the taxpayer. It can reduce the tax a taxpayer may owe and can also provide a refund even if the taxpayer had no income tax withheld.

Taxpayers must file a tax return to receive this credit.
