There are five steps in the VITA/TCE Interview Process:

1. Cultivate a comfortable environment and put the taxpayer at ease
2. Use active listening skills (confirm and respond)
3. Review the taxpayer's written responses to the questions on the approved intake and interview sheet and make necessary corrections
4. Working with the taxpayer, complete the critical questions on page 2 of the approved intake and interview sheet
5. Advise taxpayer of the next steps

It is important to confirm the taxpayer's entries on page one of the approved intake and interview sheet and document any changes you make so the Quality Reviewer can make the connection between the form and the finished return.
