ITG FAQ #5 Answer-Does the National Indian Gaming Commission interface with Title 31? |
| |
The primary mission of the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) is to regulate gaming activities in Indian lands for the purpose of shielding Indian tribes from organized crime and other corrupting influences; ensuring that Indian tribes are the primary beneficiaries of gaming revenues; and assuring that gaming is conducted fairly and honestly by both players and operators.
To effect these goals, the NIGC is authorized to conduct investigations; undertake enforcement actions, including the assessment of fines and the issuance of closure orders; conduct background investigations; conduct audits; review and approve tribal gaming ordinances and management contracts; and issue such regulations as are necessary to meet its responsibilities under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
See Title 25 of the US Tax Code, Section 2701, for Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
