EITC Information for IRS Partners |
| |
You can help promote the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) by using your communication network so more eligible people receive it, bringing more dollars into your community. A tax credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction of taxes owed. EITC is a refundable credit, meaning workers can reduce their tax to zero and then receive a refund of any remaining credit.
Your organization can sponsor Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites in your community to prepare tax returns for those who cannot prepare their own and cannot afford professional help.
EITC Awareness Day – January 29, 2010
IRS invites charitable organizations, elected officials, state and local governments, employers and other interested parties to join this national grassroots effort to bring attention to this important tax credit.
EITC has been making the lives of working people a little easier for 35 years. Yet one in four eligible taxpayers miss out because they don’t check it out.
Find out how you can get involved in your community and increase EITC Awareness. Contact your IRS relationship manager or e-mail us at partner@irs.gov.
Important Information for IRS Partners in Maryland and New York
IRS is partnering with Maryland and New York to alert taxpayers who appear to be eligible for but didn't claim EITC on their 2006 federal and state returns. These taxpayers will receive letters from their respective states in April and May.
