IRS Grants Tax Relief for W. Va. Storm Victims

CINCINNATI — The Internal Revenue Service today announced special tax relief for West Virginia taxpayers in the Presidential Disaster Area that was struck by severe storms, flooding and tornadoes during the period July 22 – Sept. 1, 2004.

The disaster area consists of four counties: Fayette, Lincoln, Logan and Mingo.

  • The Federal Tax Deposit (FTD) Penalty Waiver Period for employment and excise tax deposits is July 22 – Aug. 2, 2004.
  • The Extension Period for returns and other tax payments is July 22 – Oct. 6, 2004.
  • The Disaster Designation for this area is “July storms – West Virginia” — taxpayers mark certain relief-related forms with this designation.
