First-Time Filing a Tax Return? - February 2010 (ASL) YouTube video text script

Hi, I’m Patrick and I work for the IRS.

If this is your first time filing a federal tax return, it may seem overwhelming.

But it doesn’t have to be, especially if you use IRS Free File.

It’s a free tax preparation and e-filing program available through a partnership of software companies offered exclusively at our website.

The great thing about Free File is it’ll do the math for you.

It’ll help you avoid errors.

And it’ll find the credits and deductions you’re eligible for.

And, if you use direct deposit, you can get your refund in as few as 10 days.

One other thing --

If you are younger than 24, ask your parents if they are claiming you as a dependent on their tax return.

If they are, you won’t be able to claim yourself on your tax return.

But most of you can still use Free File to get any refund owed to you.

Just go to www.IRS.gov and click on Free File.
