IRS Seeks Applications for Information Reporting Advisory Council

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today requested nominations for the Information Reporting Program Advisory Committee (IRPAC), which advises the IRS on information reporting and administration issues of mutual concern to the private sector and the federal government.

“Information reporting is an important part of sound tax administration, and insights from IRPAC members assist the IRS in keeping pace with changing times,” said IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman.

IRPAC presents an annual report to the IRS Commissioner at a public meeting in the fall. The committee consists of 24 volunteers who are appointed to three-year terms by the Commissioner. Terms are staggered so that about a third of the panel changes each year. Nominations are currently being accepted for up to seven appointments to terms that will begin January 2012.

The deadline for submitting applications is May 31, 2011. IRPAC members are drawn from diverse backgrounds. Members represent the taxpaying public, tax professional community, small and large businesses, colleges and universities, state tax administrations, banks, insurance companies, foreign financial institutions and the payroll community.

Anyone interested in being a member of IRPAC may nominate themselves or be nominated by a professional organization. All nominees must complete an application.
