Creditor Information for Employees with Personal Finance Issues

As an IRS employee affected by the government shutdown, there can be temporary hardships in meeting your financial obligations. This may occur regardless of when pay resumes for you as a furloughed or excepted employee. You may find the following information useful for sharing with your creditors as you work to meet your financial obligations:

  • IRS creditor letter (.pdf). If you use this letter, you will also need a copy of your official furlough letter (.pdf).
  • Sample letters (.doc) that you may use as a guide when working with your creditors.
  • Press release from federal regulatory agencies encouraging financial institutions to work with customers affected by the federal government shutdown.
