Do-It-Yourself Free Tax Preparation (ASL) - YouTube video text script

Hi, I’m Patrick, and I work for the IRS.

Do you have a simple tax return but don’t have access to a computer or the internet to file it electronically?

Or, would you like to e-file your tax return, but you’re not sure you can do it alone?

If so, we want to tell you about a free and easy way you can do it yourself, with the help of IRS-certified volunteers.

Our volunteers are at two different types of sites.

One type of site is called Volunteer Income Tax Assistance or VITA.

You generally qualify for VITA if you make $51,000 or less.

The other type is called Tax Counseling for the elderly or TCE.

You generally qualify for TCE if you’re 60 or older.

If you meet either of these qualifications, then the next step is to go to our website and see if a VITA or TCE site near you offers self-preparation.

If so, then all you have to do is bring in your documents, such as your W-2s and Social Security numbers for you and your dependents, and the volunteers will get you started.

You’ll be able to use a computer and free tax software to complete and file your own tax return.
