December 5, 2011: Shutdown dates / times for MeF Business Participants

Attention: (MeF) Participants - Transmitters, Software Developers, Practitioners and States. Pending shutdown for Business Modernized e-File (MeF).

This is a reminder that the shutdown for Business MeF begins Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 11:59 am.

Business MeF Production Shutdown/Cut Over Schedule:

Shutdown is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 11:59 am, and end on Monday, January 09, 2012 at 9:00 am, Eastern.

Important Note: States who schedule retrieval of their state submissions may have to change their schedule in order to retrieve submissions in time to validate returns and submit acknowledgements by 11:30 am, Eastern on December 27th. Anything not retrieved thru MeF by 11:59 am on December 27th, cannot be accessed again until MeF reopens for Production on January 9, 2012.

December 7, 2011:  94x XML - Tax Year 2011 Updates (2012 Filing Season)

ATTN:  Software Developers, Return Transmitters and Authorized IRS e-file Providers/EROs. The final schema, Version 2.12, is now available and posted on the IRS webpage.

This schema version is final.  However, pending legislation may require a change to the schema.  This schema contains the New Credit Reduction State information, which will be available for testing.  This schema will be available for testing on December 12, 2011.

December 7, 2011: Scheduled Modernized e-File (MeF) Production Downtime

The Modernized e-File (MeF) Sunday maintenance build has been extended. 

The system will be unavailable starting Friday, December 9, 2011 at 5:00pm Eastern until Monday, December 12, 2011 at approximately 6:00am Eastern. The extended build window is needed to implement some critical system enhancements for the upcoming filing season.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this extended downtime. Thank you in advance for refraining from accessing the MeF Production during this period.

December 8, 2011:  Form 1120/1120S/1120-F Business Rules and Schemas
for Tax Year 2011

ATTN: Software Developers, Return Transmitters and Authorized IRS e-file Providers/EROs.  The following updates have been posted on IRS.gov in the Production tables.

  • Subset of 1120/1120F/1120S Business Rules for Tax Year 2011 Amended Returns.
  • Forms and Attachments Listing: efileAttachments.xsd.
  • TY2011 Known Issues and Solutions update.
  • Tax Year 2011 Publication 4163, Modernized e-File (MeF) Information for Authorized IRS e-file Providers for Business Returns, has been posted.

Note: The Form 8861 schema has been removed, as the form is obsolete.

December 10, 2011:  Modernized e-File (MeF) is Now Available

The Modernized e-File (MeF) weekend build has been completed and is now available for production.

The extended Modernized e-File (MeF) maintenance build was completed earlier than expected, and the Production system is now operational for the remainder of the weekend.  The MeF Status page on irs.gov will be updated to "Operational" once it becomes available.

The work was necessary to implement system enhancements in support of the upcoming filing season, so you may now resume transmitting production submissions and other service requests, and getting acknowledgements.

December 15, 2011:  Business – 94x XML System Downtime

Attention: Software Developers, Return Transmitters and Authorized IRS e-file Providers/EROs. 

Effective December 15, 2011, at 11:59 p.m. (EST) through January 2, 2012, the 94x XML e-file System will not be available for the filing of Production returns.  During this timeframe, the system will be open for testing only.  The system will reopen for the filing of Production returns on January 3, 2012.

Additionally, the 94x XML PIN Registration Process response timeframe will be delayed.  If a registration is received, it will not be processed until the system reopens on January 3, 2012.

Please do not call the e-help Desk between December 15, 2011 and January 3, 2012 with questions concerning your 94x PIN Application.  During that timeframe, the system is open for testing status inquiries only, and status information regarding your PIN Registration cannot be provided.

December 20, 2011: 1040 Modernized e-File Updates

Updates to the Tax Year 2011 Schemas and Business Rules are available on IRS.gov, except for Form 9465.  For this form, minor Business Rule changes are available. The updated versions will be available in the Assurance Testing System on December 28, 2011 and in the Production environment on January 17, 2012.

December 29, 2011:  94x XML Business e-file - Tax Year 2011 Updates (2012 Filing Season)

ATTN: Software Developers, Return Transmitters and Authorized IRS e-file Providers/EROs.  The Employment Tax e-file System (94x XML e-file System), is incorrectly setting error code 266 when the element "DepositStateCode" contains "MU" for Forms 941 and 944.  

A correction will be implemented on or about January 09, 2012. We will notify you when that correction has been completed.

December 29, 2011:  Modernized e-File Assurance Testing System (ATS) Not Operational

The Modernized e-File (MeF) system is experiencing a problem resulting in a "Invalid Certificate Path" error message. Please refrain from accessing the Assurance Testing System until we issue a follow-up message when the problem is resolved.

We are working this as a high priority and apologize in advance for any inconvenience caused.  Please continue to monitor the MeF  status page for any updates.
