MeF 990 Form Family Release Memo August 19, 2016
MeF Exempt Organization Stakeholders:
Beginning with Tax Year 2016 (Processing Year 2017), eXtensible Mark-up Language
(XML) Schemas and Business Rules will no longer be posted on IRS.GOV. We have
removed the Schemas and Business Rules for the following forms that were posted on
June 6, 2016.
Tax Year 2016 Schema Versions:
- Form 990x (990, 990-EZ, 990-PF): TY2016v1.0
- Form 1120-POL: TY2016v1.0
- Form 990-N: TY2016v1.0
- Form 8868: TY2016v1.0
Form 990 Family Schemas and Business Rules will be made available to Authorized
Users listed on e-File applications for Transmitters, Software Developers and
States. Please contact the MeF Mailbox with the Company Name, your Authorized User
role and ETIN to request the Tax Year 2016 Schemas and Business Rules.
The Schemas and Business Rules versions listed above will not be used in ATS or
Production. We are currently making updates to the schemas and rules for Processing
Year 2017 changes. Updated versions will be released as they become available.
The schemas are packaged by form type and version number. "Diff" files are included
which identify the difference between the schema version listed above and the
previous schema version.
Business Rules are packaged, by form type and version number. Two different formats
are provided that contain identical information – Adobe (.pdf) and comma separated
file (.csv). A column within the file identifies changes made from the previous
- Form 990x: Changes to Schedules A and B.
- Form 8868: Elimination of Part II, Additional 3-month extension.
