PHOENIX – On February 21, 2020, Susana Gonzalez pleaded guilty to one count of aiding or assisting in the preparation of false and fraudulent income tax returns. Gonzalez also agreed to pay restitution up to $300,000 to all victims harmed by her relevant conduct. Sentencing is scheduled for May 18, 2020.

On May 9, 2016, Gonzalez prepared and electronically filed from Phoenix, Arizona, a false 2015 U.S. individual income tax return with the Internal Revenue Service on behalf of a client. At the time, Gonzalez operated a tax return preparation service, GTS Tax Service. The income tax return included Schedule A deductions that she knew were false or inflated, and Gonzalez included them so that the client would receive a larger tax refund.

The investigation in this case was conducted by the Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation.
