You can do your application to become an Authorized e-file Provider online through IRS e-Services. You need to register for e-Services before you can do your application. Keep in mind that e-Services registration can take as long as 28 days.
The online application to become an Authorized e-file Provider has many advantages. It makes it easier and faster to correct mistakes. It catches errors during data entry and validates your data against IRS databases. You can also check the status of your application online. As an Authorized e-file Provider, it's your responsibility to keep the information in your application up to date. Once your application is approved, you can easily update your information online as well.
The application asks for basic information about your business, key people in your business and the provider options you have chosen. See Choose Options for more information about provider options. You may choose more than one provider option, for example, ERO, Transmitter and Reporting Agent, on one application. Include fingerprint cards or enter professional status for all principals and responsible officials. One set of fingerprint cards is required for each principal and responsible official. To get fingerprint cards call, toll-free, 866-255-0654. New fingerprint cards are not required for those who sent them before with another application that is still active.
IRS cannot approve your application until you have submitted all of the required information.
