ITG FAQ #9 Answer-How is Indian gaming regulated?

The primary regulator of an Indian casino is the tribal gaming regulatory agency (TGRA), or Tribal Gaming Commission.  Secondary regulation depends upon the following:

  1. Whether the tribe has negotiated a Class III compact with its state;
  2. The language of the Tribal-State compact as to regulatory duties.
  3. If no Tribal-State compact exists, NIGC assumes secondary regulatory duty.
