Statement of U.S. Senator Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine) Chair — Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship
“The IRS is making another positive step forward to help small businesses by lightening the compliance burden associated with quarterly unemployment tax payments,” said Snowe, Chair of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship. “This is practical, cost-effective relief for small firms least capable of keeping up with burdensome paperwork demands or hiring outside payroll preparers to comply with the tax code.
“Our tax system puts a heavy burden on small business owners, who struggle to balance federally-required paperwork with the daily demands of running a profitable and growing small business,” Snowe added. “I commend Commissioner Everson for using his agency’s regulatory powers to help the nation’s small businesses achieve their goals with less government interference.”
Statement of Rep. Donald Manzullo (R-Illinois) Chair — House Small Business Committee:
"I congratulate Commissioner Everson and the IRS staff for making this change which will reduce the tax reporting burden on America's small businesses," said U.S. House Small Business Committee Chairman Don Manzullo. "This is another move by the Bush Administration to reduce costly and time-consuming regulations on our small employers so they can instead focus on building their business and creating jobs for Americans."
