So why should you e-file? Because it's the easiest, fastest, most accurate and safest way to file your taxes.

It's easy because the tax preparation program does most of the work for you. It figures out the correct forms and even does the math for you.

As for fast, when you e-file and choose direct deposit, you get your refund in as few as 10 days.

As for accuracy, consider this: Roughly 20 percent of paper returns contain at least one error. Electronic returns have an error rate of only 1 percent.

And when it comes to safety, e-file uses secure encrypted servers to handle your personal information.

Lots of Ways to e-File

IRS Free File is available to most taxpayers — 70 percent of them to be exact. It will be available in mid-January.  Also, depending on your income, you can also get free e-file through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program or the Tax Counseling for the Elderly program.

Otherwise, you can use paid tax preparation software which you can buy online or at the store.

Whichever way you choose, you'll find that e-file is fast, easy, accurate and safe.
