The Earned Income Tax Credit… or EITC… helps workers and families who don't make a lot of money get a tax break. If you qualify… you can use the credit to reduce the taxes you owe and maybe even get a bigger refund. Usually… the credit is higher for eligible working families… but many lower-income workers with no children can also qualify for a smaller credit. That's because the EITC is now available to eligible workers who are at least 19 years old and older than 64 but have no qualifying children. There are also special exceptions for people who are 18 years old and were formerly in foster care or are experiencing homelessness. If you use a tax preparer… ask them to check out the credit for you. If you do your own taxes… we recommend that you file your return electronically. That's because the e-file software will ask you the right questions to make sure you get the money you deserve. Either way… don't leave money on the table. If you make low to moderate income… see if you qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit. To find out if you do… go to IRS-dot-gov-slash-EITC.
