Reminders for Extension Filers (ASL) - YouTube video text script

Hi, I’m Glen, and I work for the IRS.

Did you request an extension of time to file your tax return?

If so, the filing deadline, which is mid-October, is coming up soon.

The usual deadline is October 15th.

But when October 15th falls on a weekend, either Saturday or Sunday, you’ll have until Monday to file.

Now, when you’re preparing your return, don’t forget to check if you qualify for some common credits and deductions.

There are special tax benefits for low- and moderate-income families as well as small businesses.

In addition, you could be eligible for a credit if you paid for college tuition or fees, or if you made your home energy-efficient.

Filing electronically will make it easy to claim these and other credits.

E-filing also gives you helpful guides and tips for a correct and complete return. E-file is the fastest, easiest and most accurate way to file your tax return.

You can e-file for free by going to irs.gov/freefile.

Or you can use tax preparation software.

You can also ask your tax professional to use e-file.

And if you’re getting a refund, you’ll get it faster if you choose direct deposit.
