The Estimated Tax Burden Survey provides an important opportunity to provide feedback that can be used to help millions of taxpayers who need to make estimated tax payments.
We recognize that taxpayers with estimated tax requirements often have to spend additional time and money to meet their tax obligations compared to those who have the benefit of withholding. Not meeting estimated tax obligations can also lead to penalties and high tax bills. The IRS is interested in better understanding the burdens and challenges taxpayers may face in making estimated tax payments throughout the year. Your input will help us understand the impact of current policies and help the IRS provide more tailored and specific assistance to taxpayers in tax and income situations similar to yours.
Only those taxpayers with income not subject to withholding who are randomly selected may participate in the study. We estimate that it will take 15 to 20 minutes to complete the survey.
This survey is being conducted by Westat on behalf of the IRS. Sample copies of the of the survey invitation and IRS letter are provided below.
We hope you will decide to participate in this study. Together we have an opportunity to better understand and help reduce estimated tax compliance burden. Thank you.
