YouTube video text script - Do I Have To File A Tax Return?

HI… I’M TERRY … AND I WORK FOR THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE.

EVERY YEAR…THE IRS GETS THIS QUESTION:  "DO I HAVE TO FILE A TAX RETURN?"

IN MOST CASES… WHETHER YOU NEED TO FILE DEPENDS ON YOUR FILING STATUS… YOUR AGE… HOW MUCH YOU MAKE… AND THE TYPE OF INCOME YOU RECEIVE.

IF YOU’RE SINGLE… FOR EXAMPLE… YOU USUALLY NEED TO FILE IF YOU EARN OVER TEN-THOUSAND DOLLARS.

SITUATIONS VARY IF YOU’RE SELF-EMPLOYED OR IF YOU CAN BE CLAIMED ON SOMEONE ELSE'S TAX RETURN AS A DEPENDENT.

AND… IF YOU BOUGHT HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE THROUGH THE FEDERAL OR STATE HEALTH INSURANCE MARKETPLACE AND RECEIVED ADVANCE PAYMENTS OF THE PREMIUM TAX CREDIT OR WISH TO CLAIM THE PREMIUM TAX CREDIT… YOU MUST FILE A FEDERAL TAX RETURN.

NOW… JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE TO FILE A TAX RETURN… DOESN'T MEAN THAT YOU SHOULDN'T.

IF YOUR INCOME WAS BELOW THE FILING REQUIREMENT… AND YOU HAD TAXES WITHHELD FROM YOUR PAYCHECK… YOU SHOULD FILE A TAX RETURN SO THAT YOU CAN GET A REFUND.

ALSO... YOU COULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR CERTAIN CREDITS… SUCH AS THE EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT AND THE PREMIUM TAX CREDIT.
