Event Information: Whether you are just beginning to explore the idea of starting a business or you already have a few months under your belt, learn what you need to be successful from the beginning.

  • Distinguish the type of business entity best for your needs
  • Register your business, get a Tax ID number, register for taxes, business licenses and permits
  • How to find your customers
  • Where to go for funding

Event Information: Money Smart for Small Business is a training program for small businesses developed jointly by FDIC and the Small Business Administration. Delivered in ten 1-hour sessions, participants are introduced to a different topic in each session and provided an overview, basic concepts and key points relative to that topic.

Event Information: Boots to Business is an entrepreneurial education program offered by the Small Business Administration. This is an elective class within the Department of Defense's revised Transition Assistance Program called Transition Goals, Plans, Success (Transition GPS).

The curriculum provides valuable assistance to transitioning service members exploring self-employment opportunities by leading them through the key steps for evaluating business concepts and the foundational knowledge required for developing a business plan. Participants are also introduced to SBA resources available to help access start-up capital and additional technical assistance. IRS will provide small business materials and publications for the workshop. Any fees are by the hosting organization and not the Internal Revenue Service. Cost: Free to transitioning military and/or their dependents.
