TAS - Your Voice at the IRS

The Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) is Your Voice at the IRS. Our job is to ensure that every taxpayer is treated fairly, and that you know and understand your rights. We offer free help to guide you through the often-confusing process of resolving your tax problems that you haven’t been able to solve on your own. Remember, the worst thing you can do is nothing at all!

Note:

Due to the current budget situation, all IRS offices will be closed on May 24, June 14, July 5, July 22 and August 30. We will resume normal operations on the next business day. Many resources on this site and http://www.taxpayeradvocate.irs.gov are available. We apologize for any inconvenience
.

  1. Will the Taxpayer Advocate Service offices be open during furlough days?

No. Due to the current budget situation, all IRS offices are closed today. This includes TAS virtual face-to-face service available at the Human Resource Development Council, located at 7 North 31st Street, Billings, MT. We will resume normal operations on the next business day.

  2. What if I have a financial hardship or need to take immediate action with the IRS?

The IRS won’t act on your account until the next business day. Call TAS on the next business day. We’ll look at your problem and if you have a hardship, we’ll take any steps necessary to relieve it and advocate for you with the IRS. If you leave us a message while we’re closed, please be sure to give us a phone number and the best time to call, so we can reach you.
