Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) Matching

 

The TIN Matching service lets you validate TIN and name combinations before submitting an information return. Interactive or bulk options are available.

Who can use this service

TIN Matching is only for payers and their authorized agents that submit information returns.

To use this service, a payer must be listed in the IRS Payer Account File (PAF) database. Payers are added to the database if they filed Forms 1099 within the last 2 years to report backup withholding.

Apply for TIN Matching

You must complete an application to participate in TIN Matching as an authorized payer of income subject to backup withholding.

To apply for and use the TIN Matching service, you’ll need an IRS account.
