Review the identity information entered for the spouse in Step 4, E-File Your Tax Return.

To file electronically, the IRS must be able to verify your identity using one of the following:

• Your prior-year PIN, or
• Your prior-year Adjusted Gross Income (AGI)

If you cannot provide the correct prior-year information

You may use an Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) to file electronically.

• You can get an IP PIN at www.irs.gov/getanippin.
• You must verify your identity with the IRS to receive one.
• An IP PIN cannot be used if you are filing Form 9465 by itself (standalone).

How to fix the error

• Correct the prior-year PIN or AGI, or
• Enter a valid IP PIN, then
• Resubmit your return

If you are making a payment, you may have to re-date Step 3, Payment Options
