Impact of the Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act of 2023 on Publication 225

The Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act of 2023, enacted on 12/12/24, extends special rules for the treatment of certain disaster-related personal casualty losses and provides tax relief for losses due to wildfires and the train derailment that occurred on February 3, 2023, in East Palestine, Ohio.  We are not updating the 2024 Publication 225, Farmers Tax Guide, at this time. Instead, see Form 4684, Casualties and Thefts, and its instructions and the 2024 Publication 547, Casualties, Disasters, and Thefts, for more information.  We will update the 2025 revision of Pub. 225 for the specific tax relief provided in the Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act of 2023.
