Update to the 2025 Instructions for Schedule 8812 (Form 1040)

If you downloaded or printed the 2025 Instructions for Schedule 8812 (Form 1040), Credits for Qualifying Children and Other Dependents, prior to Jan. 23, 2026, please note the following update on page 1 under Taxpayer Identification Number Requirements.

The heading “SSN Required by Due Date of Your Return To Claim the CTC and ACTC” has been changed to “SSN Required Before the Due Date of Your Return To Claim the CTC and ACTC.”
