We have important information about your child’s Adoption Taxpayer Identification Number (ATIN). Your child’s ATIN expired.
What you need to do
- Complete Form 15101, Provide a Social Security Number (SSN) for Adoptive Child PDF, included with your notice if you received a Social Security number (SSN) for your child.
- You can send us your information using the Document Upload Tool. To use the tool, visit IRS.gov/dutreply, or:
- If you prefer, fax your information to the fax number in the notice using either a fax machine or an online fax service. Protect yourself when sending digital data by understanding the fax service’s privacy and security policies.

Frequently asked questions
How long is an ATIN valid?
An ATIN is valid for 2 years. If you don’t have an SSN for your child, you can request a 1-year extension. For more information, see instructions for completing a Form W-7 A, Application for Taxpayer Identification Number for Pending U.S. Adoptions.
