The IRS offers a few digital options for accessing and maintaining tax information depending on the type of user. One of these is Tax Pro Account. Let’s explore some of the features and benefits.

Who can use Tax Pro Account?

Qualified tax professionals who work in tax preparation, for accounting firms or other eligible organizations can use the Tax Pro Account. Individual taxpayers are also encouraged to have an their own IRS Individual Account.

Benefits

Through Tax Pro Account, tax pros can access their client’s individual tax information and act on their behalf. They can also:

  • Request and receive an individual Centralized Authorization File number online, in real time
  • View and withdraw active authorizations instantly
  • Make payments, set up or manage payment plans, and view taxpayer information within the scope of an authorization

Designated business representatives can:

  • Manage business CAF access by specifying which employees are authorized to act under the business CAF
  • Link the business CAF number to the company’s Employer Identification Number
  • View taxpayer information associated with the business CAF within the scope of active authorizations
  • View and withdraw active authorizations on behalf of the tax professional business.

When both tax pros and individuals have accounts, they can submit powers of attorney and tax information authorizations online. This helps reduce processing times and eliminates the need to fax, mail, or upload documents.
