You may be eligible for the Recovery Rebate Credit even if you don’t normally file a tax return

February 19, 2021

No income? Or, you usually don't have to file? If you didn't get any Economic Impact Payments or got less than the full amounts, you may be eligible to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit. You must file a 2020 tax return to get the credit even if you don't normally file.

Filing electronically with tax preparation software, including IRS Free File, will help you figure the credit amount. Choose direct deposit for a faster refund.
