TIGTA - The IRS is Calling Me Is This For Real? - YouTube video text script

("Victim")

The IRS is calling me?

Can this be for real?

(Timothy Camus, Deputy Inspector General, U.S. Dept. of Treasury)

Fraud is real.

Hang up on fraud!

Americans have lost more than 23 million dollars by giving out information and money to criminals impersonating the Internal Revenue Service.

Scammers are aggressive when they contact a potential victim and claim to be from the IRS.

They often use a fake telephone number with a U.S. area code.

They demand immediate payment - they may even threaten police arrest or deportation.

Don't believe them.

Instead, just hang up!

Don't provide any information to these crooks.

The real IRS will generally first make contact by letter and will never demand immediate payment or threaten force.

If you suspect you've been contacted by an IRS scammer, submit an incident report with the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at: www.tigta.gov.
