Date: June 27, 2023 Contact: newsroom@ci.irs.gov HARRISBURG — The United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced today that Lisa England of Attalla, Alabama, was charged in an indictment with two counts of tax evasion. According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, the indictment alleges that England failed to file tax returns and pay income tax for the years 2016 and 2017, while in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The indictment further alleges that England evaded paying taxes by obtaining payroll payments that were issued in the names of others and shredding paystubs that had been issued for those other individuals. The case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Carlo D. Marchioli is prosecuting the case. The matter has been specially assigned to the United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania for prosecution. The maximum penalty under federal law for this offense is five years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. A sentence following a finding of guilt is imposed by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines. Indictments and Criminal Informations are only allegations. All persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court.
