The Estimated Tax tool for 2019 is currently under construction.
For information to determine if you are required to make estimated taxes for 2019, please see the 2019 instructions to Form 1040-ES, Estimated Tax for Individuals.
This interview will help you determine if you have to make estimated tax payments for the current tax year or if you meet one of the exceptions to making payments.
Information You’ll Need
- Your 2017 income tax return.
- An estimate of your 2018 income.
The tool is designed for taxpayers that were U.S. citizens or resident aliens for the entire tax year for which they're inquiring. If married, the spouse must also have been a U.S. citizen or resident alien for the entire tax year. For information regarding nonresidents or dual-status aliens, please see International Taxpayers.
Please note: If you receive two-thirds or more of your gross income from farming or fishing related activities and you owe an estimated tax payment, recent legislation allows for a waiver of the 2018 underpayment of estimated income tax. This tax is waived for any qualifying farmer or fisherman who, by the normal deadline for filing the 2018 federal income tax return (April 15, 2019 for most taxpayers), files his or her 2018 federal income tax return, attaches a specified waiver form to the return, and pays in full any tax reported on the return as payable. See Notice 2019-17 for additional information.
Conclusions are based on information provided by you in response to the questions you answered. Answers do not constitute written advice in response to a specific written request of the taxpayer within the meaning of section 6404(f) of the Internal Revenue Code.
