Understanding Your CP212 Notice

CP212 is an automatic notice that is sent to filers when they have more than one employer identification number (EIN). We assigned one of these numbers in error, but have now consolidated the two numbers.


What you need to do

  • Because the CP212 is an informational notice, you do not have to respond.

You may want to

  • If you have questions, or believe that there was an error in consolidating these numbers, please respond in writing using the space at the bottom of the notice, or call the 877 number at the top of the notice.

Tips for next year

Ensure that you use the same EIN and name on each form that you file.
