You can upload documents to the IRS to respond to an IRS notice or letter or make a request for alternative media transcription. Don’t submit tax returns through this tool, we cannot process them.
What you need
- An access code (if provided) or the notice or letter number or title
- The first and last name or business name on the notice or letter
- Social Security, individual taxpayer identification or employer identification number
- Documents you received from IRS that you want transcribed to another media. (Note: It could take up to 15 days to convert it to your preferred format and mail it back to you. Large files may take longer. Audio, eBraille and Plain Text formats will be placed on a flash drive. Braille and large print will be printed.)
How it works
The IRS Document Upload Tool is a secure, easy and fast way to send information to the IRS. You can use the tool to:
- Upload scans, photos, or digital copies of documents as JPGs, PNGs or PDFs
- Get confirmation that we received your documents
If you don’t have an access code
You can enter the notice or letter number. Selecting the wrong notice or letter from the drop-down menu could cause delays.
Verify it's the IRS
If you receive a notice with a link, carefully check it. It should include “https” and “irs.gov.” For example: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/understanding-your-notice-or-letter.
