Revised 2020 Instructions for Form 8615

If you downloaded the 2020 Instructions for Form 8615, Tax for Certain Children Who Have Unearned Income, before February 8, 2021, please note that the Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet on page 6 of the instructions has been revised.

  1. On page 6 of the instructions, under "Using the Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet for line 9 tax," number 9 was revised. It now reads "Complete lines 5 through 25 following the worksheet instructions. Use the parent's filing status to complete lines 6, 13, 23, and 24.

    Enter the amount from line 25 of the Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet on Form 8615, line 9, and check the box on that line. Don't attach this worksheet to the child's return."
     
  2. On page 6 of the instructions, under "Using the Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet for line 15 tax.," number 6 was revised. It now reads "Complete lines 5 through 25 following the worksheet instructions. Use the child's filing status to complete lines 6, 13, 23, and 24 of the worksheet for Form 1040.

    Enter the amount from line 25 of this Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet on line 15 of Form 8615 and check the box on that line. Don't attach this worksheet to the child's return."
