Business Basics in a Day

This day-long seminar will cover the basics of starting a small business, including determining whether your idea is feasible, creating a business plan, choosing a legal entity, forming financial projections, marketing, developing a web presence and bookkeeping. Guest presenters will include an attorney, a commercial banker and an accountant. Entrepreneurs will share their stories during a panel discussion with an opportunity for questions. This active learning module includes hands-on computer lab time. The instructors will be John Addessi and Jack Harwell. IRS is providing educational information and products for this class. The fee for this seminar is $75. Box lunch will be provided, and free parking is available.

IRS Small Business Tax Workshop

Learn the basics of complying with IRS regulations, including business use of the home, self-employment tax, employee versus independent contractor, payroll taxes, and electronic filing (EFTPS). Also learn recordkeeping requirements for business expenses, including vehicle use. Presented by an experienced CPA and tax accountant. The IRS is providing educational information and products for this class. The fee for this workshop is $45. Any fees charged by the sponsoring institution are exclusive of the Internal Revenue Service; there is no charge by the IRS for this event. Free Parking.

Legal Issues and Your Small Business

Participants will learn the basic legal steps of setting up a small business and the common legal pitfalls to avoid. This interactive workshop includes discussions on corporations, LLCs and other business entities and structures, independent contractors vs. employee questions, lease and other contract considerations, trademarks and protecting your name and business. Attendees will leave with a good understanding of the current legalities in operating a small business. IRS is providing educational information and products for this class. There is no fee for this workshop which is provided in conjunction with and presented by the Washburn University Small Business and Nonprofit Transactional Law Clinic.
