SAN FRANCISCO

Title: Annual Conference on Elder Abuse

Event Information: Every May, LAS hosts an annual Conference on Elder Abuse, where we gather nearly 300 Bay Area professionals to hear presentations on the latest ways to combat elder abuse from a variety of professional perspectives. For the past six years we have held the event at UC Hastings and will be there again in 2017. Each Presenter puts together a roughly 75 minute presentation and leave 15 minutes for questions. We are open to single presenters or pairing presenters up on related topics. IRS will give an ID/Refund Theft and Data Breach presentation.

Event Information: San Jose State University in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service are offering a full day of pertinent topics addressing tax issues for those practitioners who support the success of small businesses and entrepreneurs in the community. The focus of this 5th annual event is “best practices in shared economy and advising small business.” IRS and state tax agency employees, practitioners and university staff will be providing presentations and panel discussions on the following proposed topics (will select 6 topics):

  • Shared Economy
  • IRS Future State
  • Optimizing Business Deductions - Home office, depreciation, travel & transportation, etc.
  • Due Diligence in Serving Small Business Clients - Circular 230 and other rules of conduct
  • Sales Tax - Avoiding California and multi-state problems
  • Hiring Correctly and Avoiding Payroll, Non-tax Legal, and Classification Problems
  • Accounting Methods Requirements and Options for Small Businesses

CPA CPE, MCLE for California Attorneys and Continuing Education credit for Enrolled Agents and CTEC Registered Tax Preparers is being offered.

Lunch and light refreshments are included.

The fees charged are by the other sponsoring organizations and not the Internal Revenue Service.
