Basic Withholding Tax Workshop

In this FREE 2 hour workshop, the SCDOR, along with an Enrolled Agent presenting IRS obligations and the South Carolina Department of Employment & Workforce (DEW) will present information to help you better understand your business obligations. Materials provided in class include the IRS Federal Tax Deposit publication and other electronic resources. Who should attend: small business owners, bookkeepers, payroll clerks, new withholding tax registrants, businesses who employ seasonal workers, and tax professionals. Course Topics:

  • Federal tax law issues (taught by an Enrolled Agent licensed to practice before the IRS)
  • Unemployment insurance? Liability and reporting requirements (taught by an SCDEW representative)
  • Basics of the SC Withholding Tax law
  • How to register for the Withholding Tax
  • When to file and pay Withholding Taxes
  • Electronic filing methods

Registration: Pre-registration for the workshop is necessary to receive the webinar link and log-in information. There are two ways to register:

Business Use of Home

Federal & State Tax Workshop for Small Business

The Federal Tax Workshop (9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.), is designed for small business owners who want to learn how to start a new business including legal forms of business organization, getting the company FEIN for bookkeeping and accounting, recordkeeping, working with a paid tax preparer, etc. and paying federal taxes. The workshop will be taught by Chuck Christie, Enrolled IRS Agent and Owner of Christie Tax & Accounting, Campobello, SC. The presenter will discuss net profit or loss, deductions, depreciation, self-employment tax, and estimated tax. An information packet, including IRS publications, is given to each participant.

The State Tax Workshop (1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.), is designed for small business owners who are starting a small business or have recently started one in the service, retail, or manufacturing sectors. The workshop covers state tax requirements and employment security obligations. The program will be taught by the SC Department of Revenue and the SC Department of Employment and Workforce. Helpful publications and sample forms are given to each participant.

Small Business Tax Workshop

This workshop is designed for the small business owner, manager, or the self-employed. Explore business use of home, independent contractors vs. employees, employment taxes, tax forms, and electronic filing methods. Information on recordkeeping, types of business entities, Schedules C & SE, and employment taxes will also be covered.
