Minimum computer requirements for Free File fillable forms

 

Use a desktop or laptop that meets these requirements. Phones and tablets are not supported.

If fields look out of place or a form does not show correctly, check your computer, browser and display settings before you contact support.

Use a desktop or laptop with a supported version of Windows or macOS. Other devices and operating systems are not supported.

Use the latest version of one of these browsers:

  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Safari

For the best results, use:

  • Intel Core i3 processor
  • 4 GB of RAM
  • 1920 by 1080 display resolution
  • 125% scale and layout
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader DC or above for printing

Fields may look out of place when the device, browser, display or browser settings do not meet the program requirements. This does not always mean the form is wrong.

Try these steps:

  1. Sign out and close Free File Fillable Forms.
  2. Close other programs and browser windows.
  3. Open one supported browser and clear the browser cache.
  4. Check the browser settings listed on this page.
  5. Set scale and layout to 125% and display resolution to 1920 by 1080.
  6. Sign in and open the form again.

If information is missing or disappears after you save or move to another form, the form or section may be incomplete.

  • Complete all required fields for the form or schedule.
  • Select Do the Math after you complete each section when the form uses calculated fields.
  • Select Save before you move to another form.
  • Review the official form instructions and the Free File Fillable Forms line-by-line instructions.
  • Check that the form, statement or attachment you need is supported.

A computer-generated form may look different when printed than it does on the screen. Review the printed return carefully.

  • Select Print Return in Free File Fillable Forms.
  • Allow pop-ups and use Adobe Acrobat Reader DC or later.
  • Compare the printed forms with the forms listed in My Tax Forms.
  • Complete each form you want to file.
  • Delete forms that should not be part of your return.

Completed forms and schedules should print. A form that does not print with the return may be incomplete and may not transmit.

If the problem continues, contact forms support. Include your operating system, browser and browser version, the form or schedule, the exact step and any error message.

Do not send your Social Security number, ITIN, password, bank information, physical address or a copy of your full return.
