A message from the Commissioner — Memorial Day remembrance

May 21, 2020

On Memorial Day, Americans pay solemn tribute to the women and men who sacrificed their lives in service to the country we love. This year, the day of remembrance won't be like years past, where we could gather in our communities to attend events to honor our fallen heroes. But it's vitally important that we take time to reflect on those who gave everything to protect our freedom.

It's also our honor and privilege to support those who've served and continue to serve in our nation's military and to extend our gratitude to their families as well. I'm proud to say that nearly 10 percent of our workforce are veterans. Our agency is strengthened by their values and resolve, and we proudly maintain robust programs to support them. Never forget those who serve or have served and forever appreciate all they have given on behalf of our country.

As we continue to navigate the coronavirus pandemic and look toward a return to something resembling normal life, let's make sure we don't lose sight of those who laid down their lives to keep our country free. Remember them and their families. Keep their stories alive. Practice the ideals for which they fought.

I wish you and your families a peaceful and healthy Memorial Day weekend and thank you for your continued dedication to the IRS and the United States of America.
