IR-2015-17, Jan. 30, 2015 — More than 12,000 free tax preparation sites, which provide vital tax preparation services for low- to-moderate-income and elderly taxpayers, will be open nationwide this year as the IRS continues to expand its partnerships with nonprofit and community organizations.

IR-2015-16, Jan. 30, 2015 — The IRS today warned taxpayers about groups masquerading as charitable organizations to attract donations from unsuspecting contributors, one of the “Dirty Dozen” tax scams for the 2015 filing season.

IR-2015-15, Jan. 30, 2015 — The IRS is partnering with community-based organizations across the country to promote Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Day, an effort to alert millions of low and moderate-income workers who may be missing out on a significant tax credit that can be as much as $6,000.

IR-2015-14, Jan. 29, 2015 — The IRS Criminal Investigation Division and Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs co-hosted an International Criminal Tax Symposium in Washington, D.C., focusing on offshore tax evasion and international financial crimes. The symposium included delegates from Australia, Canada, The Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the U.S.

IR-2015-13, Jan. 29, 2015 —The IRS’s Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) Program Office has issued its annual program report, which describes how LITCs have assisted thousands of low income taxpayers nationwide with free or low-cost representation, education and advocacy services.

IR-2015-12, Jan. 29, 2015 — The IRS today warned taxpayers to be on the lookout for unscrupulous tax return preparers pushing inflated tax refund claims. Taxpayers should be wary of anyone who asks them to sign a blank return, promises a big refund before looking at their records, or charges fees based on a percentage of the refund.

IR-2015-05, Jan. 22, 2015 — Aggressive and threatening phone calls by criminals impersonating IRS agents remain near the top of the annual "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams for the 2015 filing season, the Internal Revenue Service announced today.

IR-2015-04, Jan. 16, 2015 – The IRS and the Free File Alliance today announced the launch of Free File, which makes brand-name tax software products and electronic filing available to most taxpayers for free.

IR-2015-03, Jan. 15, 2015 — The IRS announced the on-time opening of the 2015 filing season and highlighted a growing array of online services, including features that help taxpayers understand how the Affordable Care Act will affect them at tax time, along with the availability of the Free File program.

IR-2015-02, Jan. 14, 2015 — National Taxpayer Advocate Nina E. Olson today released her 2014 annual report to Congress, which expresses concern that taxpayers this year are likely to receive the worst levels of taxpayer service since at least 2001 when the IRS implemented its current performance measures.
