2009 Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Program

The 2009 Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Program ended on Oct. 15, 2009. However, the new 2011 Offshore Voluntary Dislcosure Initiative was announced on Feb. 8 and runs through Aug. 31, 2011. Taxpayers with unreported income relating to offshore transactions who wish to voluntarily disclose the information to the IRS can find information on the process.

On September 21, 2009, the IRS announced a one-time extension of the September 23, 2009 deadline for special voluntary disclosures by taxpayers with unreported income from hidden offshore accounts. Taxpayers now have until October 15, 2009. There will be no further extensions.
The September 23, 2009, deadline for certain FBAR filers and certain offshore-related information returns who have no unreported income is also extended to October 15, 2009.
