Information About the Alternative Media Center

 

The Alternative Media Center (AMC) provides a variety of accessible products to help people who use assistive technology such as screen reading software, refreshable Braille displays and screen magnifying software. These products include tax forms, instructions and publications that can be downloaded or viewed online as Section 508 compliant PDF, HTML, eBraille, text and large print. Please note that every product is not available in all formats. For example, tax forms are not available as HTML.

The AMC operates a facility to produce interpoint Braille and large print pages. The AMC also has Braille transcriptionists who use translation software to deliver customized translation services.

Current products

The AMC provides accessible tax forms, instructions and publications on the Accessible Forms and Publications page. To request paper copies of tax forms, instructions or publications in Braille or large print, call the tax form telephone number at 800-829-3676.

Accessible taxpayer notices and letters

If you receive a notice or letter in print format and prefer it in Braille or large print, choose one of the three options below.

  • Call the tax assistance number at 800-829-1040.
  • Fax your notice and a cover sheet to: Alternative Media Center, at 855-473-2006. On the cover sheet, write “Alternative Media Format" at the top and include your name, address, daytime phone number and your preferred alternative media format.
  • Mail your notice with a note stating your preferred format (Braille or large print) to: Internal Revenue Service, Alternative Media Center, 400 N. 8th St. Room G39, Richmond, VA 23219.

Once the AMC receives your notice it will take up to 15 business days to convert and mail it back to you.

We are working to make our services and products more accessible.

Accessible notices for visually impaired taxpayers

We are developing a process to make it easier for visually impaired taxpayers to request post-filing tax notices—such as notices about additional taxes or penalties owed—in Braille, large print, audio or electronic formats. The new process will be in place by January 31, 2022.

Accessibility Helpline

We are establishing an Accessibility Helpline to answer questions related to current and future accessibility services and alternative media formats available to taxpayers with disabilities.

File a complaint

The IRS Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), Civil Rights Division upholds and protects the civil rights of all taxpayers, including individuals with disabilities or limited English proficiency. If you have experienced discrimination by during an IRS conducted program or by staff/volunteer, please address your complaint or concern using the Accessibility Helpline when it becomes available or submit a complaint in writing using Form 14652 (EN/SP), Civil Rights Complaint PDF, to:
