The federal income tax filing due date is extended from April 15, 2020, to July 15, 2020. You also have until July 15 to make any 2020 federal income tax payments, without penalties and interest, regardless of the amount you owe.

This applies to all taxpayers. You don't need to file additional forms or call the IRS to qualify.

If you can't meet the July 15 filing deadline you can request an extension by filing Form 4868PDF.

If you're expecting a refund, file as soon as possible, preferably electronically, it's faster, safer, and more accurate.
