Error
The Social Security number (SSN) on a Form W-2 does not match the SSN on your tax return.
Solution
Review the SSN entered on Form W-2 and compare it to the SSNs on your return.
The employee SSN on each Form W-2 must match:
- Check the SSN on Form W-2, Box a.
- Make sure it matches the SSN of the primary taxpayer or spouse listed on your return.
- Correct the SSN on the W-2 entry if it was entered incorrectly.
After making the correction, resubmit your return.
If you are making a payment, you may have to re-date Step 3, Payment Options.
