The primary taxpayer's name or Social Security number (SSN) does not match IRS records.
Review the primary taxpayer's information on your return.
The SSN and name entered for the primary taxpayer must exactly match what the IRS has on file. This includes correct spelling and the correct SSN.
How to fix the error
- Check the primary taxpayer's SSN and make sure it is entered correctly.
- Verify the name spelling and format match the Social Security card.
- Correct any errors and make sure both the name and SSN match IRS records.
After making the correction, resubmit your return.
If you are making a payment, you may have to re-date Step 3, Payment Options.
